Alpha-H was initially founded with a focus on developing products to effectively target acne, putting Glycolic Acid at the centre of their high-performing range.
While Alpha-H is not a new brand (they recently celebrated 25 years), their products are more in demand than ever. Their signature product, Liquid Gold is hugely successful, with one being sold every two minutes, every day all over the world.
Beyond Liquid Gold, the brand has expanded its range and now offers an impressive array of products to cater to various skin concerns and types.
So, what’s the secret behind their success? These are key reasons the beauty community can’t get enough of their products.
- They offer cosmeceutical-grade products at an affordable and accessible price point.
- They combine ultra-effective active ingredients with natural botanicals to deliver high-quality skincare products.
- The brand is cruelty-free, (mostly) vegan, contains no nasties and the products are made in Australia.
- They have a minimalist, aesthetic design to sit pretty on your sink side.
- Alpha-H has done well in expanding its range while maintaining efficacy and quality.
Alpha H Skincare Products Reviewed
Liquid Gold
Liquid Gold is the hero product from Alpha-H and has a cult following amongst beauty lovers and for good reason. Described as ‘absolute gold” by many users, the product delivers brighter, glowy, radiant skin and a clearer complexion.
It’s a chemical exfoliating lotion that works to brighten and revitalise the skin tone and texture thanks to some key ingredients like 5% glycolic acid and liquorice extract.
The efficacy of Liquid Gold is in large part to the power of glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells and debris. The result is a smoother, brighter and improved skin texture and tone.
Glycolic acid is not a one-trick pony. It accelerates the skin renewal process and supports collagen production to tackle signs of ageing. This wonder ingredient also stimulates your natural production of hyaluronic allowing for the skin to retain hydration and increasing the delivery of other ingredients to the skin.
Liquid Gold was one of the products that achieved noticeable results. I found from applying the product at night, my skin looked smoother and glowy in the morning.
It comes in a clear consistency and can be applied easily on a cotton pad every second evening after cleaning. To experience the full effect of the product, they recommend not using any other products after application.
Even for those who use some heavy-duty skincare products, you may experience some tingling when using Alpha H Liquid Gold. This may be too much to tolerate for those with sensitive skin types.
Vitamin C Serum with Grape Seed
25ml
Vitamin C is easily one of my favourite ingredients. It brightens and evens skin complexion, fights free radical damage, promotes collagen production and helps to reduce pigmentation. It truly is a powerful ingredient.
Alpha-H released their Vitamin C Serum along with other antioxidant serums such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and Vitamin B.
This is a highly concentrated formula containing Ethyl Ascorbic acid and antioxidants to assist the strengthening, firming and preservation of the skin against further UVA and UVB damage. This serum contains a potent blend of new-generation technology alongside botanical extracts and the highly effective hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid.
I have often found Vitamin C serum to be quite tacky, sticky and have a thick consistency. The Alpha H Vitamin C serum is so watery. You have to be quick once you apply it before it rolls off your face.
Those with sensitive skin or looking for their first Vitamin C would appreciate this serum.
You may have to build up use to notice brightening effects. I have used Vitamin C serum products where you can see a noticeable difference the morning after application. This is not one of them.
While it’s not the most expensive Vitamin C serum on the market when it comes down to price vs effectiveness I don’t think it’s worth the investment unless you have sensitive skin.
Balancing Cleanser
185ml
I adore this cleanser. From the packaging to the product, it feels luxurious yet comes at a reasonable price of 185ml.
It has a creamy, non-greasy consistency that disperses well as you cleanse. As you wash off, you will notice silky-soft, clean and plump skin. It doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight or pulled as you can often experience with other cleansers.
Alpha H has integrated some amazing ingredients to make it not only feel great but actually help with some skin concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles, dryness and dehydrated skin and redness.
Aloe Vera – which contains anti-inflammatory properties and is packed with vitamins and antioxidants that help improve skin hydration and moisture loss.
Vitamin E – Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Work to slow the ageing process by protecting the skin from free radical damage.
This treatment is suited to all skin types and again would work well for those after a gentle cleansing product. Would purchase again.
Beauty Sleep Power Peel
50ml
Beauty Sleep Power Peel is a skincare product that packs a punch. It’s an overnight moisturiser mask with a powerful mix of Retinol, Collagen and Glycolic Acid that works to brighten, smooth and plump the skin.
Despite the potent ingredients, I didn’t find the mask to be irritating. I did notice some minimal flaking in the days after use, however, this can be expected when using chemical exfoliants and retinol.
In terms of results, my skin looks and feels rejuvenated the morning after application.
The biggest downside of this mask is the smell! It’s hard to describe but it’s acidic and reminds me of fizzy drink concentrate. It lingers on the skin as it is hard to ignore.
An alternative that I found to be just, if not more effective and has no off-putting smell is the One Night Stand AHA Mask from Dr Naomi Skincare.
Melting Moment Cleansing Balm
I recently tried the viral Melting Moment Cleansing Balm from Alpha-H. I loved it so much, it deserved its own review.
In short, it has a luxurious buttery texture that quite literally melts make-up off. It can be used as a makeup remover, cleanser and mask as it leaves your skin feeling soft and supple while effectively removing dirt and grime from your face.

Alpha-H – Frequently Asked Questions
Who owns Alpha-H?
The success of the Alpha H brand can be attributed to the late founder, beauty pioneer Michelle Doherty.
A beauty therapist in her younger years so sought out a solution to her major skin concern — chronic cystic acne. That solution came in the form of glycolic acid and its efficacy in treating acne-prone skin and other skin concerns. She went on to develop various products that incorporate this power ingredient and Alpha H Liquid Gold was born. 25 years later and with a versatile product range, the brand is now a staple in many skincare lovers’ kits.
Is Alpha-H good for acne?
Alpha H was conceived with the purpose of helping those who suffer from acne-prone skin.
Whether acne is your main skin concern or there are others you are looking to treat, their product range really has something for everyone.
With that in mind, some of the best Alpha H products for acne are:
Alpha H Liquid Gold with 5% Glycolic Acid
Alpha H Clear Skin Daily Face and Body Wash
I would recommend going to their website and taking the skin quiz to get a tailored recommendation of products for your skin concern and type.
