I Try The Top-Rated Serum Said to Be a ‘Proven Plumper’

By Tara | Updated: 16/04/2024

After years of trying skincare products, I have become sceptical of anything that claims to mimic the Botox or dermal filler effect. As we know, the effectiveness of cosmetic treatments can only be achieved in a clinic.

The Future Advanced Line Filler from Australian brand Skin Virtue claims to provide an ‘instant plumping effect’ and smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles thanks to a patented hyaluronic acid formulation.

With a strong endorsement from the Adore Beauty team labelling it ‘the best serum of 2021’, I was curious to see if it lives up to the hype. I found this serum does provide a subtle plumping effect and intensely hydrates the skin, however, it’s definitely expensive for the amount of product you get.

Read on for all my thoughts on trying this lauded serum.

Skin Virtue Advanced Line Filler Review

About My Skin: Dry with Fine Lines Around My Eyes

To set expectations, my skin can generally tolerate trying new skincare products. That said, my skin is on the drier side and with early signs of ageing, particularly around my eyes and I can often experience hormonal breakouts around my mouth.

In a skincare product, I am looking for a formula that tackles fine lines and wrinkles, intensely hydrates and leaves my skin soft, plump, and smooth.

The Feel & Smell:

Unlike many serums that have a gel or watery consistency, The Skin Virtue Future Advanced Line Filler is a cream serum texture that feels like you are applying a light moisturiser and works to hydrate the skin.

It has a very subtle, light, and fresh fragrance, making it pleasant for daily use without being overpowering.

The Packaging

The product comes in sleek, white packaging if you love minimalist branding. The pump dispenser with a lid ensures easy and hygienic application, allowing you to get just the right amount of product without any waste.

The Results

I have been using Line Filler for the last two months rotating it with my heavier retinol products. I find this to be ideal for someone who wants anti-aging benefits but experiences sensitivity or doesn’t want to use a high-strength Vitamin A.

I like that the cream texture feels lightweight compared to a heavy night cream. The inclusion of Glycerin, Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter make this a hydrating product and I will optionally use a moisturiser after applying it (depending on how dry my skin is at the time).

While not dramatic results, I do notice my skin feels more supple, plumper and brighter the following day after application.

Many ‘anti-ageing’ marketed products can often be quite aggressive and inflamed to sensitive skin. Line Filler is rather soothing and gentle to the skin, while still effective thanks to the inclusion of Vitamin E.  I also loved that I could place it around my eyes without causing irritation.

The Ingredients

The serum is formulated with a star lineup of ingredients.

Encapsulated Dehydrated Hyaluronic Acid: Replicates the ‘filler effect’, by hydrating and plumping the skin.
Vitamin A: Promotes skin cell turnover and improves complexion.
Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin: Provides moisturising and replenishing benefits.
Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter: Nourishes, restores, and replenishes the skin.
Vitamin E: Provides soothing and calming benefit to the skin.

The Value

While not the cheapest option on the market for a 30ml size, its formulation and gradual results would justify the investment for someone looking to address fine lines and wrinkles.

It’s competitively priced compared to other luxury serums and comes highly recommended by skincare experts like Adore Beauty’s Hannah Furst, who hailed it as the ‘best serum of 2021’.

Downsides and Considerations

While it is an Australian brand, be aware that it is not made in Australia but actually made in Italy.

Additionally, it’s not a budget serum so if you are after something more affordable check out our other options for anti-aging serums and peptide serums.
