Faux a Euro Summer Glow: Reviewing the Best Selling Face Tan Water by Eco Tan

By Tara | Updated: 07/09/2023

If you’re anything like me, you avoid sun exposure (especially on your face) at all costs. This can mean that you might find your face ends up being a lot lighter than your body.

Your best option is a subtle self-tanner — because tanning your face in the sun is sacrilegious in the skincare world.

I have tried many face self-tanners but find most of them can be quite intense. Some can leave you looking a little too orange and worst of all, cause breakouts or skin irritation.

After hearing the hype around the Eco Tan Face Tan Water I was curious to try it and see whether it really is the best face self-tanner on the market.

The face self-tanner comes in a 100ml bottle and has a mostly clear appearance but a subtle stain.

Unsurprisingly, the consistency of the product is very much like water, rather than a tanning lotion or mousse.

Eco Tan claims that continued use 2 – 3 times per week will build a natural-looking sun-kissed glow. You will not see a dramatic difference on first application as it provides subtle results over time.

The organic self-tan claims to create a “youthful glow” and will reduce the need to wear foundation. I will provide my thoughts on this below.

What is unique about this face self-tanner?

Unlike many of the self-tanners I have used that are packed full of chemicals, Eco Tan Face water contains natural ingredients and is both cruelty-free and vegan.

Their signature ingredients include:

All products released by Eco Tan, including the Face Tan Water are certified organic and natural. This means that they don’t just claim themselves as being “all-natural”, they have in fact been certified by The Organic Food Chain (OFC) which hold some of the strictest standards in the world when it comes to organic products.

As mentioned, I was particularly thrilled to hear the products are cruelty-free and vegan! Testing on animals is just not acceptable in any case and I will always support brands that advocate for animal protection.

Does Face Tan Water work?

Continuous application of Face Tan Water provides a natural-looking glow over time.

I have now been using this product for a few months and have to say, I love this product! I apply it daily on my face, neck, and décolletage after cleansing. It will always leave your skin feeling hydrated and plump due to the effective ingredients that lock in moisture.

It builds to a beautiful, subtle glow over time and does not result in you waking up with an orange face.

Also, I applied this when my skin has been at its most sensitive and found that it did not irritate my skin or inflame my breakouts. It is essentially a “tanning toner” and can complement your usual skincare routine.

I have naturally very fair skin and don’t think this could ever replace my foundation (I am always wearing self-tanner on my body). It does, however, create a nice layer of glow underneath my foundation.

Overall, this is one of the best face-self tanners I have used.

It does not:

What are the benefits for skin?

Not only is Face Tan Water a really great face tanner, but it also has several benefits for skin. You are applying it on your face after all.

Having used many self-tanning products in the past, they can often make your skin unnecessarily dry. Eco Tan Face Water contains Hyaluronic Acid which helps to hydrate the skin and ensure you are not drying out.

Another benefit of Face Water for skin is that it is non-comedogenic. This means that it won’t block your pores and leads to breakouts. I have personally experienced this with many other fake tanning products for the face. You wake up with a tanned face and a pimple or two.

Overall, this product is designed to not only deliver a gorgeous glow but to also cover blemishes and reduce the appearance of redness and signs of aging.

How long does eco tan face water last?

With all the positives, there is a downside of Face Tan Water — it does not last long. If you were to apply it and only wash your face with water, I imagine it would last between 2 – 3 days.

If you’re someone who likes their skincare, you will find this product is no match for cleansers, makeup removers, and many active ingredients. At most it might last 1 day. You will need to consistently reapply to see a long-lasting result.

How do you use Eco Tan Face Water?

Face Tan Water is really simple to apply.

  1. Start by cleansing your skin as normal and towel drying.
  2. Apply with your fingers or a cotton pad.
Eco Tan recommends application with your fingers, but I personally use a cotton pad and it works great for me. If you choose to use your fingers, you will need to wash them post-application as there will be a stain.
  3. Use about a teaspoon of the product on each application spread evenly on your skin.
  4. Allow it to completely dry before using a moisturiser on top.
I generally don’t apply anything on top post-application.
  5. Repeat the application 2 – 3 times per week to maintain the glow.

Wrap Up

Face Tan Water really is one of the best-rated tanning products on the market for good reason. It contains really beneficial skincare ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, is a breeze to apply, and really delivers a beautiful, subtle glow.

Best of all, it’s made of only organic and natural ingredients and is vegan and cruelty-free.

The only downside of course is that it can fade quickly, especially if you are using skincare products. You will need to apply a few times a week to build and then maintain the colour.

I recommend this product to my friends and have even got my boyfriend using it.

Face Tan Water comes at a reasonable price, so try it for yourself!
