I consider my nighttime routine like a ritual. I always look forward to that moment in the day where I can take all my make up off, let my hair down and then use some of my favourite beauty and hair products.
They call it beauty sleep for good reason. This is because cell turnover actually increases as we sleep, meaning it’s an ideal time to use products that will nourish and repair the skin. Not just a marketing gimmick, products that hydrate, exfoliate and brighten can be even more effective overnight.
In this list I will cover some of my favourite overnight beauty products for skin, hair and wellness.
Best Overnight Beauty Products
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
This is the queen of serums, and is easily one of the best-selling overnight beauty products.
ANR is a powerful anti-ageing serum, that tackles lines and wrinkles, dullness and dryness all while you sleep.
It is such a beautiful and luxurious serum, that feels like anti-ageing honey coating your skin. The actual texture and consistency is very lightweight and absorbs into your skin perfectly, without any sticky feeling.
The oil-free formula works to hydrate the skin for 72-hours and nourishes the skin with antioxidants.
Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream
I wanted to include a few retinol-based products into this list, as we know that when it comes to ingredients like retinol, they should only really be applied at night. What I love about the Youth Renewal Cream is that it is extremely hydrating and has a beautiful texture. Compared to other night creams I have tried, is that it is not too heavy and absorbs quickly.
As you sleep, the Retinol Tri-Active Technology gets to work. The time-released retinol technology produces a radiant complexion and improved skin elasticity and firmness.
This cream can be used on normal, combination and dry skin types.
Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon Transformative Night Gel-Cream
The naming of this product alone was genius, as who doesn’t want to be wrapped in a metaphoric skincare cocoon?
There is a two-fold benefit to Sleep Cocoon. It works to both repair and nourish your skin through a formula of active ingredients.
Wind down into a restful and deep sleep, with the help of motion-activated essential oils. Sleep Cocoon has a beautiful lavender aroma that puts you into the right headspace for sleep.
While you sleep, this product is hard at work, optimising skin recovery, hydrating and brightening your skin. Your skin will not only look refreshed, but also feel soft as silk.
Some ingredient highlights include Persian Silk Tree Extract, Whu-Zhu-Yu Fruit Extract and Kakadu Plum.
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Night Moisturiser
I wanted to include a budget-friendly option here, as we know that skincare can get expensive. Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturiser can be found at most drugstores and even some supermarkets.
This affordable lightweight mosturiser works to intensively repair skin and reduce signs of ageing while you sleep.
Ageing skin is targeted by a formula comprised with some of our favourite ingredients like Retinol, a Glucose Complex and Hyaluronic acid.
The result is a brighter and replenished complexion. As someone who experiences dark circles, I find this to work well in treating the eye area.
SACHAJUAN Overnight Hair Repair
When it comes to overnight products, your hair needs some love too. This is a gel-based leave-in hair mask that works for strengthen your hair while you sleep.
Pop this onto your hair in the evening, starting at the lengths and leave in overnight. It will absorb into the hair, hydrating and nourishing it. Rinse out the next morning.
Some of the signature ingredients include Red algae to thicken and boost hair growth and Irish moss to nourish and repair dry hair.
Other things to note is that it is cruelty-free, vegan and sulphate-free.
For those that experience frizz or have dry, damaged and coloured hair, this product will work wonders.
Bumble and bumble Bb. While You Sleep Overnight Damage Repair Masque
This is another amazing restorative hair masks by one of the best selling hair brands Bumble and Bumble.
This masque is an effective treatment to repair damage and leave you with silky, smooth and hydrated hair. Plus, it smells amazing!
Some of the signature ingredients include Evening Primrose Oil to repair and protect against future damage, Camellia Oil to restore and rejuvenate and Advanced hair repair technology to repair split ends.
What I like about this product is that it can be used on dry hair. Particularly if you are looking to use it overnight and want to avoid sleeping on soaking wet hair. Wash it out the next morning with shampoo and conditioner.
Slip Silk Pillowcase
I absolutely adore my silk pillowcase. Not only does it feel like you are sleeping on a silk cloud, it has several benefits for skin and hair.
For skin – Unlike a cotton pillowcase, the smooth surface of the silk or satin means less friction on the skin, and therefore less creases that can lead to wrinkles in the long-term. Another benefit for skin is that the silk smoothness is less likely to absorb moisture from the skin, keeping your skin hydrated.
For hair – Again less friction on the hair means you are less likely to experience frizzy and tangled hair like you would with a cotton pillowcase. And like with your skin, will not absorb as much moisture from the hair.
The Beauty Chef – Sleep
This is a perfect nightcap for a deep and restful sleep.
Sleep mainly contains a mix of bio-fermented turmeric and spice blend. Other key ingredients include Lemon balm and passionflower that are used in Herbal Medicine to encourage sleep and relieve nervousness and stress.
You can mix Sleep with some warm milk and sweeten with honey if you choose. The only downside is that it does not taste great – just something to consider before you buy.
If you’re anything like me, it can sometimes take a while to get to and to maintain a restful sleep. If you don’t mind the taste, this is a really effective way to relax your body and mind into sleep.
We know how important self-care is and the evening is when I take time to unwind from the stresses of the day and nourish myself with my favourite skin, hair and wellness products.
Consider some of these products for your evening routine and embrace your beauty sleep!
