This article is brought to you by Eye of Horus.

The ‘glowy makeup look’ has been a go-to makeup trend for over twenty years.

Made popular by the It Girls of the early 2000s, the look is all about a dewy finish, highlighter and a bronzy, pink blush that highlights your natural features. With a flawless base, the look can be glammed up with a bolder lip or eyeshadow or kept subtle with pastels.

Whether you’re going for a subtle shimmer or a full-on luminous glow, this article will guide you through the process of creating the perfect glowy makeup look.

To help achieve it, we are using a full face of makeup from the luxury Australian beauty brand, Eye of Horus.

Renowned for their exceptional mascaras, pencils, and eyeliners, this collection draws inspiration from the ancient Egyptians who believed that eyeliner offered not only aesthetic allure but also spiritual safeguarding.

Every product is meticulously created in Byron Bay, with a thoughtful infusion of meticulously chosen oils and waxes rooted in the rich traditions of alchemy. The brand prioritises ethical beauty by ensuring our entire range is cruelty-free, paraben-free, and gluten-free.

Glowy Makeup Look: Illuminating Your Beauty

To truly understand the art of achieving a glowy makeup look, let’s delve into the key steps and techniques that will help you achieve that sought-after luminosity.

Prepping Your Canvas: Skincare Routine for a Radiant Base

Before diving into the makeup application, it’s essential to ensure that your skin is well-prepped and hydrated. Follow these steps for a radiant base:

  1. Cleanse and Exfoliate: Start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any impurities. Follow up with an exfoliator to slough away dead skin cells and reveal a fresh, glowing complexion.
  2. Hydrate and Moisturise: Apply a hydrating serum and follow it up with a lightweight moisturiser to nourish your skin and create a smooth canvas for makeup application.
  3. Primer Power: Opt for a hydrating primer to blur imperfections, minimise pores, and prolong the wear of your makeup.

The Glowy Makeup Look Breakdown: Step-by-Step Guide

Now that your skin is prepped and ready, let’s dive into the step-by-step process of creating a stunning glowy makeup look that will make you shine. Follow these steps to achieve a radiant and luminous finish:

1. Foundation with a Dewy Finish:

When it comes to a natural, glowy makeup look, it’s important to get the base right. Choose a lightweight, dewy foundation that matches your skin tone.

I am using the recently launched Second Skin Foundation for a flawless radiant base.

Being a skincare girlie, I love a makeup product that goes beyond a cosmetic benefit. Second Skin is infused with nourishing ingredients like Moringa, Abyssinian, Witch Hazel, Ectoin, and Vitamin E to target signs of ageing and brighten and hydrate the skin.

What’s great about Australian beauty brands is their commitment to safeguarding the skin, recognising that long-term beauty relies heavily on proper protection. By including SPF+25, the foundation offers broad-spectrum sun protection, ensuring an extra layer of defence against harmful sun rays.

With this innovative formula, you can nourish and effectively protect your skin. The lightweight formula is buildable and is designed for long wear. Apply it with a damp beauty sponge or a foundation brush for an even and natural-looking coverage.

2. Conceal with Precision:

Use a concealer to brighten any under-eye darkness or blemishes. Apply it in a triangular shape under your eyes and blend it gently using a beauty sponge or brush.

I am using the Triple C Concealer. It’s formulated with 3 natural forms of potent Vitamin C to protect, smooth and visibly brighten the skin over time. This highly pigmented, creamy formula offers smooth, complete coverage and all-day wear.

Best of all, it sets without creasing and can be layered for maximum coverage.

3. Bronze and Contour:

Use a warm-toned bronzer to add depth and warmth to your face. Apply it to the hollows of your cheeks, temples, and jawline. For a subtle contour, blend the bronzer thoroughly for a seamless finish.

4. Blush for a Natural Flush:

Choose a blush in a soft pink or peach shade for a natural flush of colour. Smile and apply it to the apples of your cheeks, blending it upward for a youthful and healthy-looking glow.

5. Highlight like a Pro:

The right highlighter can be the hero of your natural, glowy makeup look. Select a liquid or cream highlighter and apply it to the high points of your face—the cheekbones, brow bone, down the bridge of your nose, and the cupid’s bow. Gently blend it with your fingertips or a damp beauty sponge for a seamless finish.

For this, I am using the Luminous Highlighter in Dusk Bronze for a golden bronze finish. It’s a creamy, liquid consistency that can be easily applied and blended over key areas. I placed the highlighted high on my cheekbones, on the centre of my forehead and just above my lip.

In terms of colour, it’s highly pigmented, buildable and ideal for long wear.

6. Eye-catching Eyeshadow:

Opt for neutral shades with a shimmery finish to create an eye-catching yet natural-looking eyeshadow. Apply a light shade all over the lid, a medium shade in the crease, and a touch of shimmer on the centre of the lid.

I am using the Eyeshadow Compact Dawn which contains four highly-pigmented bronze shades with both matte and shimmer finishes.

The bronze, earthy colours really complemented my blue eyes. The palette comes in an eco-friendly refillable metal compact with a mirror.

7. Luscious Lashes:

Curl your lashes and apply a lengthening mascara for a wide-eyed effect. Wiggle the wand from the roots to the tips, coating each lash evenly.

I used the award-winning Goddess Mascara for sky-high lashes.

Loved by makeup artists and beauty editors, this clump-proof and smudge-proof formula features an hourglass brush of flexible silicone that effortlessly curls and lengthens lashes while providing strength and conditioning.

Infused with Moringa Oil, Beeswax, and Rice Bran, it dries instantly and offers bold jet-black pigments.

8. Brushed Brows:

For a natural, glowy makeup look, I decided to put the brow pencil down.

Instead, I opted for a neat, brushed look using the Brow Fibre Extend. With subtle pigment, it fills in some sparse areas but still keeps the brow looking natural.

9. Lips that Glow:

Finish off your glowy makeup look with a hydrating lip balm or glossy lipstick in a shade that complements your skin tone.

For the 2000s look, embrace a natural lip colour or opt for a soft peach or pink shade for a fresh and youthful appearance.

I glammed up my look with the glam Innana Honey Goddess Lipstick but would opt for a pastel for a daytime look.
