Summer has arrived for those in the Southern Hemisphere and as the weather heats up, now is the perfect time to get your beauty kit in order.
With this in mind, Beauty Space has put together a helpful guide for essential hair and skincare products for summer.
5 Best Hair & Beauty Products for an Australian Summer
Staple Skincare – SPF
Sunscreen tops the list for good reason. If there is one thing and one thing only that you apply in summer, it has to be a sunscreen. If you are not protecting your skin from the sun, your skincare efforts are going to be redundant. If you live in Australia, you should already be very aware of how strong the sun is, all year round.
The good news is that there are so many great sunscreen products on the market. We have evolved from the days of thick, sticky, white-stuff that stings your eyes. There are now so many sunscreen brands that work well under makeup, dry quickly and don’t make you look like you just left the sauna.
One important thing I learnt from visiting my cosmetic doctor is protecting your lips too. Use an SPF lip balm to make sure your lips stay protected from sun damage.
Fight the Frizz
As soon as there is a drop of humidity in the air, my hair buckles under the pressure. That’s why a frizz-fighting hair oil or cream is essential in my summer beauty kit.
Luckily, there are some great ones out there. Moroccanoil has been my go-to for a long time now, but Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oleo-Complexe Versatile Beautifying Oil is also one of the best.
It’s best to apply the oil to damp hair prior to styling or as directed on the product. Another tip for fighting frizz is to let your hair run under cool water as you rinse it. The cool water helps to seal the hair cuticle, adding shine and allowing styling products to work more effectively.
Correct Sun Damage with Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a great addition to your skincare routine all year round, and summer is no exception. Vitamin C has plenty of benefits including skin brightening, collagen boosting and fighting free radicals.
As we spend more time outside during the warmer months, our skin can become exposed to some pretty harsh environmental factors. Therefore, it’s essential to make sure your skincare products help to fight the harsh summer conditions. Vitamin C works to stimulate the skin to produce collagen and resurface the outer layers — ultimately helping to correct sun damage.

All About Hydration
Hyaluronic Acid is another all year round product but can be especially beneficial in summer. This is a must-have for your beauty kit.
As we get more sun exposure, it’s important to make sure your skin stays hydrated and nourished. Hyaluronic Acid is your best friend when it comes to hydration.
By applying a HA serum prior to a moisturiser application, will help to lock-in the natural skin moisture resulting in plump and glowing skin.

Look Beyond Your Face
As I fight face wrinkles and eye bags, it can be easy to forget about the skin on the rest of your body. That’s why it’s important to apply a body lotion, particularly in the warm summer months.
What I would typically look for in a good body moisturiser is a quick-drying formula, pleasant fragrance, no sticky feeling and intensive hydration.
I would recommend applying a lotion right after you get out of the shower when your skin is still damp. This again helps in locking in some of that existing moisture into the skin surface
As seasons change, it’s important to change your skincare and body products along with it. If you are not already, try integrating one or some of these products into your routine over the summer period.
